CoAsia SEMI (CEO DS Shin) is participating in the LG Electronics-led “K-On-Device AI Home” project to develop two AI system-on-chips (SoCs).

The project is part of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s K-On-Device AI Semiconductor Technology Development Program, a large-scale national R&D initiative aimed at applying and demonstrating domestically developed AI semiconductors in key industries such as robotics and defense.
 

The project is particularly significant in that it is demand-linked, with end-user companies directly participating. LG Electronics is the lead organization for the overall “K-On-Device AI Home” project, while CoAsia SEMI, HyperAccel, Sogang University Industry-University Cooperation Foundation, Mobilint, and the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) are participating as joint R&D organizations.
 

CoAsia SEMI is responsible for the task titled “Development of On-Device AI Semiconductor Technology for AI Home Products and Services.” The project will run for a total of 54 months, from July 2026 to December 2030, with CoAsia SEMI’s R&D budget amounting to approximately KRW 31 billion.
 

The project aims to develop domestically developed on-device AI semiconductors and software platforms and apply them to next-generation AI Home products. Through this, the project is expected to help establish a domestic AI semiconductor ecosystem, secure an early position in next-generation AI Home platforms, and create new markets.
 

CoAsia SEMI plans to develop two ultra-low-power AI SoCs that support always-on sensing while minimizing power consumption and cost. Through the project, the company expects to expand its on-device AI semiconductor development capabilities and secure a strategic reference for validating future product applications and potential linkage to mass production.
 

On-device AI is a technology that performs AI computation directly on the device without transmitting data to cloud servers. With strengths in real-time responsiveness, data privacy, and power efficiency, the technology is expanding into a wide range of industries.
